BG&E Cycling Club is based in Exeter, Devon and offers bike riders the option of everything from competing to family rides. Originally started by members of Howmet in Exeter, the club has now gone on to welcome members from all over Exeter and the surrounding area.

BG&E is different to most clubs as we welcome families , individuals and all ages. The club hosts annual events such as picnics or camping trips and even visits to Tour de France and the Tour of Britain.  Members enjoy the social aspects as much as the cycling so if you are interested please contact us on the main link.

The club was originally formed in the memory of Colin Hooker a great man who loved cycling. Unfortunately Colin was struck down by cancer some years ago and we continue to ride 75 miles in his honour every year. We also ride the Force 100  details of which can be found at this link .

The Road is Closed and Girls and Boys are doing it for Themselves

The BG&E's met for a Sunday ride this week with 8 of them meeting at the swing bridge for a ride up the infamous Peak Hill in Sidmouth

A recurring theme of the ride was Road Closed signs, a seemingly constant barrier when we ride at present.

The girls (Julie, Lesley, Mandy and Lyn) completed a ride to West Hill covering around 26 miles up and down hills in their quest to achieve the 55 miles of the Force ride. They ended up at the New Inn Broadclyst where the lovely landlord made bacon sarnies for our intrepid BG&E WOWS.

Kev and Claire went out this weekend and Kev directed Claire up Wrefords Lane. Anyone who has done this hill should be surprised that Kev and Claire are still talking.  Read Kev's ride report on the forum. Well Done Claire most people I know only get 3/4 of the way up the hill first time.

The Hooker 100 date is the 27th May 2012

The hooker date is the 27th May 2012 this year and will depart at the normal time from Howmet.

if your attending please prepare drinks, food and other necessities.

The Sunday Rides continue.

The rides continue but as no one posts we don't know what happens. Suffice to say due to the incredibly competitive nature of some members, they are riding evenings, weekends, and spinning classes. Some are even disappearing into dark garages and burning 300 calories on amazing exercise bikes.

I will venture out this Sunday in the hope of recording some lesser spotted BG&E'rs secret training.
